Trophy Wife 7” (Private Leisure Industries)

It’s not everyday you here a group of girls singing “Somebody jizzed in the light socket” over extremely eerie and very primitative sounding instrumentation. Echo chamber style effects and a funeral pace add to the strangeness of this 4 song EP by Tennessee’s Trophy Wife. The packaging is great with a killer silk-screened cover and while I don’t know the pressing size judging by the group and labels love for DIY I would imagine it is a low number. This is arty anti-pop filled with tambourines, woodwinds, strings, sparse guitar and loads of other tones buried in a haze of strange. If weird is your thing this deeply challenging EP will offer many rewards ending with the unique “In the Water”.
