Clocking in at under nine minutes Bobby Burg’s(Joan of Arc) solo project Love of Everything’s Sooner I Wish features short infectious pop songs. The four tracks are somewhat charming basement indie rock with plenty of grungy fuzzed out guitar and repetitive lo-fi drumming. The first two tracks “Three Way Answers” and “Sooner I Wish” work the best on this ep with their catchy broken-hearted love song hooks and sweet innocent delivery. The instrumental “Here Come the Warm Regrets” is the longest track at just over 3 minutes and musically the most interesting however it suffers from the lack of vocals. Burg is clearly hashing out some things in his music over his recent divorce but most of the ep comes off feeling a bit underdeveloped and forced. The ep is recorded live with only vocal overdubs giving everything a rugged raw tone which works best when paired with the melodic vocals. Overall Sooner I Wish is worthy of a listen and may really grab some people who are into the lo-fi sound. I love the imagery of the cover art and the 7” comes in either white or black vinyl.
