Rat Columns 7” EP (Smart Guy Records)

Rat Columns would be a fitting name for that terrible high school pop punk band no one could stand and not necessarily for an incredible lo-fi, dark wave meets whatever type group which is the tag Rat Columns falls under. This 4 track ep is stellar from the moment the needle hits the groove. “I Wonder” is fantastic while “Keep Waiting” is a murky washed out drone. All the tracks move at a pretty languid pace perfect for dark depressing odyssey’s into the fringe’s of many genres. Fans of Joy Division and New Order will lap up “Darkness” with its icy guitars and driving bass while lead singer David West channels his inner Ian Curtis as he “Looks inside the darkness.” This is limited to 500 black vinyl copies and highly recommended.
